Simon, having graduated from university with a BA (Hons) in Business Studies, started his career in the motor industry with Renault UK and then quickly made a move to telecoms. After a few years of working for Mitel in the early 1990’s, Simon set up Hotel Telephone Systems Ltd (HTS) in 1995. The core business of HTS was split between the distribution of guest room telephones and selling and installing Mitel telephone systems and this company ran successfully until Hotel Technology Management Ltd (htm) was created in 2002, at which point HTS was absorbed into htm. During the period 1995 – 2002, HTS sold over half a million Teledex guest room telephones and, as a result of experience in this market, Simon was asked to set up a Master Distribution and Warehousing operation by VTech’s Hotel Phone division, assisting VTech in the expansion of their Hospitality business in Europe and Africa. This new Master Distributor business is called Purple Networks Ltd, based in a new warehouse in Ipswich, UK and is an entirely separate business to htm, where htm acts as one of many different resellers for Purple Networks Ltd.
Mike started out with BT as an apprentice and rose through the ranks over 15 years, finally working as a Project Manager on major customer back-end systems. Leaving BT, Mike spent four years at Mitel Networks and then – as IP telephony started to bite – had a brief spell at Clarent plc, prior to joining htm as Technical Director. Mike has been key in developing our product portfolio, working closely with the Management Team and our technology partners to address the ongoing technology needs and business challenges of our hotel clients. His Call Centre knowledge, general IT, voice and data networking experience, has enabled htm to offer remote hosting and converged networks, some of which require a completely new htm R&D project, which Mike leads to ensure the technology and interfaces function properly.
Derek started his working life as a Mechanical Design Engineer at GEC Marconi after completing a full apprenticeship and studying to HND level. After a number of engineering roles Derek decided that he needed a new challenge and worked briefly in technical sales, before joining TMS in 1995 as an Installation Engineer. He was later promoted to Projects Manager where he was responsible for the production department and installations team. Derek was approached to join htm soon after it was founded, specifically to support the development of Meteor Call Accounting and Voicemail jointly with Imagine Soft in France. He has since expanded his areas of expertise to include Mitel systems, HSIA guest internet and other technologies used within hotels. Derek now has responsibility for the day to day operations at htm including the Support Desk and the engineering teams.
